What Screen Resolutions Do I Use for My Design?
When comes to webpage design, no matter you are going to design a normal HTML websites or a flash websites, one of the most important thing you must take into considerations is “What is the actual size of my completed webpage will be?”. Based on my browsing experience, your webpage size is highly depending on the monitor size of all computer users globally.
Nowadays, monitors are commonly in 22 inches in size, which means the screen resolution is 1680 x 1050 pixels. However, I can’t based my design on this screen resolution, due to this size is commonly available in the market. There are huge possibilities that users are still using a smaller monitor size, such as 19 inches or 17 inches. So, I decided to search for “Browser Display Statistics” that are available from the internet. The table below is extracted from http://www.w3school.com: –

Clearly, the statistic shows that in January 2009, 36% are using Display Resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels and 57% is Higher resolution than 1024 x 768, which means there are average of 93% online web user are using at least 1024 x 768 pixels monitor.
Based on the statistic, choosing your design based on 1024 x 768 pixels shall be your smartest choice nowadays, no matter you are working on a normal HTML websites or a flash websites.
